Q: Is taking Rosuvastatin – a medicine to lower cholesterol – harmful to nursing mothers? ?
My doctor gave me Crestor (Rosuvastatin Calcium) for my cholesterol. I did tell him i am breastfeeding, but said it’s okay. When i checked the label online, nursimg moms and pregnant are advised not to take the med.

I have been taking the medicine for 26 days now. I want opinions regarding this.

Thanks.

A: Rosuvastatin is not only “not advised”, it is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation. It means it should not be taked at any time during pregnancy and lactation. You can stop taking rosuvastatin now, rosuvastatin doesn’t have any withdrawal effects if stopped suddenly. You can restart it after you stop breastfeeding.
